She dressed in such a way….

Hey my lovelies,

How are you doing. Firstly, a huge tight suffocating hug to you all for encouraging me. It means a lot to me.

So, summer is around the corner and so is the festive season with its hue. Today happens to be the first day of Bengali lunar year, as we call it “Poila Boisakh”. Poila Boisakh reminds me of so many childhood memories. Reminds me of my dadabhai (my late grandfather) ,my dida (Grandmother) and the family gathering at Dida’s place. The day begins with worshiping God at home, followed by seeking blessings from the elders of the family. Then comes luscious lunch. Any bengali occasion is incomplete without those pure delicacies. Dida,my mamuni and aunts make various bengali cuisine like Macher matha die moong dal (lentils with fish head) , Murighonto (a special pulao made with Kalijeera rice and fish head), Chingri malaikari (Prawn curry with coconut ) and our very own favorite kochi pathar jhol (Mutton Curry) followed by different kind of sweets and last but not the least Misti Doi. Later in the evening, the oldest ritual we follow is a visit to a Bengali store to attend a haalkhaata puja, which is a small ceremony at shops organised to open new accounts. This practice symbolizes new beginnings for us.Well, well I am not gonna torture you all (specially who are staying outside of Bengal). I know right!! It sucks. Specially,in such days.

Saree Tales :

We know the importance of Red and white in our tradition and even if you’re not a bengali you might have already known that by virtue of Bollywood movies. But that is not the complete story. As we do not go everywhere in a white saree with red border, on the contrary we save it for few occasions. However, when one does bring up the topic on bengali sarees, most would talk only about the saree with white-red combo – but there are more than what meets the eyes. Talking about sarees, taant, garad and baluchari have sought inspiration from the rich heritage and cultural aspects of our nation. They definitely are symbols of the state when it comes to trend and fashion, and across the world as well. There’s one more saree I would like to tell you about i.e. Dhakai Jamdani. Before the partition, Dhakai Jamdani was a part of the great Bengal saree clan, but now it is known as Bangladeshi Saree.

“Poila Boisakh” Look-book :

Many of you asked me to do a look book for “Poila Boisakh”. Your wish is my command. And, here I am with a trendy yet traditional look. I wore a Red and golden dhakai saree with a lace crop top. And I accessorized the look by my Gold Jhumka (earring), Gold chain and waist chain.I also wore gold embedded Sakha Paula as a Bengali married woman is adorned with these shell and coral bangles.

So, here it goes.

    1. Thank you for your concern Debjani. Each woman possesses an unique body type about which they should be equally happy, comfortable and proud of. And according to me, fashion shouldn’t be confined only within size 0/models/women with flat stomach. This concept is too cliched.Fashion is what makes you feel comfortable, yet stylish and most importantly happy. Also, I want to reach out to those millions of women who are equally managing their work and home just like me and still want to look stylish. Again, appreciate your thought and I’ll keep that in mind. ❤
